Anyone with a pool, pond or hot tub asks the same question every summer day: how warm is the water right now? Wireless pool thermometers like the Inkbird IBS-M2 report the temperature to the SmartLife app — but honestly, nobody opens an app every morning just to see one number. That is why VistaBoard puts the pool temperature directly on the wall display, next to the calendar, weather and electricity price.
This is made possible by VistaBoard's SmartLife/Tuya integration. Tuya is the platform behind a surprisingly large share of affordable smart home devices: temperature and humidity sensors, door and window contacts, water leak detectors, soil moisture sensors, smart plugs with power metering and many more. All of these devices pair with the SmartLife app — and that is exactly where VistaBoard picks up the values.
The principle is deliberately simple: in the VistaBoard settings under SmartLife / Tuya you enter your credentials once. The board can then discover the devices of your SmartLife account by itself — no need to type in device IDs. For each device, VistaBoard lists the values it reports: for the pool gateway, for example, water temperature, humidity and battery level; for a smart plug, power, current, voltage and consumption.
From that list you pick which value should appear as its own tile on the board. The pool temperature becomes a regular VistaBoard tile — with its own label, unit and decimal places. If a sensor stops reporting, the tile shows the last known value with a subtle note instead of going blank.
Important to know: your credentials stay on your board and are only used by the VistaBoard server itself — the browser only ever receives the finished measurement. As with all VistaBoard features, your data does not leave your network, except for the query to the Tuya cloud where the values already reside.
One honest note about setup: the path leads through the free Tuya developer platform (iot.tuya.com), not just the SmartLife app. There you create a cloud project, link it to your SmartLife account via QR code and receive an Access ID and Access Secret. Also note that Tuya only unlocks new cloud projects for a limited period; when the trial expires, you extend the project for free in the console.
For pool owners, the Inkbird IBS-M2 is a popular example: the wireless gateway with a display sits inside the house, the waterproof sensor in the pool. VistaBoard reads the gateway's channels and shows the water temperature on the board. But the same integration works just as well for the door contact on the garden shed, the humidity sensor in the basement or the smart plug that shows what the freezer consumes.
